Exploring a new world

Watch live as a new robotic explorer lands on Mars! NASA is scheduled to land its Perseverance Rover on the Red Planet on Friday 19 February after a six-month journey and you can follow its progress with expert commentary at this Facebook Live event from 3.30am WA time. The Perseverance is equipped with an array of cameras to capture this remarkable event, which includes a seven-minute descent, a supersonic parachute inflation, and the first autonomous guided landing on Mars.

The Rover, which launched in July 2020, is the biggest, heaviest, cleanest, and most sophisticated six-wheeled robotic geologist ever launched into space. It will search Jezero Crater for signs of ancient life and collect samples that will eventually be returned to Earth.
